Hey guys! These are the verses that stood out to me in today's reading...

King James Version -

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

Message -

8-10 Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.

I want to begin by touching on verse 10 specifically. In the King James version, it says "when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away." And in the Message version, it says "but when Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled." This is so powerful because in these verses we see that even our gifts will be affected by our ability to love. When love is NOT present, our gifts will not flourish and eventually they will end and/or reach their limit. We do not want this to happen because then we will handicap the "body" just as we talked about yesterday. We see once again that in everything that we do, we must do it in LOVE. Or else, we will only be able to do things "in part". In verse 8 it says that love/charity never fails/dies and if we can truly understand the importance of love and how to love our brothers and our sisters even when it's not easy, only then will our ministries and our gifts begin to grow to new levels. I think that we really underestimate the power of love. I'm beginning to learn that love will make you do things that you don't want to do and will make you surrender in times when you thought you were going to do something else. I challenge you all and myself included to let love truly abide in you and during those times when you don't feel like showing love towards someone, think about how much God loves us and how He died for us. That v. 10 was the one that stood out to me too! It also helps us to realize that there is much more to being a Christian than "working" for the lord (i.e. being in this ministry, teaching this class, dancing here, serving there etc.) it's really about ATTITUDE...how are we approaching those things that we are doing for Christ? Are we doing them out of obligation, internal motivation to make us 'feel good', because we want someone to see us, because we think it's gonna get us into heaven?? Everything that we do should be something that we do out of genuine LOVE FOR GOD...and if we never received anything back from him would we still do the things that we're doing? It's similar in relationships (friendships, romantic, etc.) If your doing something for someone else is contingent upon them returning the favor...then that might not be love...though we have expectations and ways that we want to be treated in relationships we really must understand how to love. On that same note, we must realize that we won't be able to fully understand how to love until we allow ourselves to be filled with Gods' love...we look for love in so many places (usually the wrong ones) and we want other people to fill a place that only GOD was intended to fill. This brings me to the many well-known verses about love found in this chapter:

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (NKJV)

(MESSAGE)
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

In thinking about these verses, we must make a CONSCIOUS effort to PRACTICE these love guidelines. If we know that this is how love operates, then we will know how to operate, because in EVERY situation there is an opportunity to show Gods love...its up to us to decide to take advantage of that opportunity. With that said, I challenge you all to begin to ruminate on these characteristics of love and work to understand them for yourself and how they apply to you,how God shows them to you and then take them and apply them to your relationships!

Great comments loves! I think it's awesome to read how we each feel about certain scriptures, it sheds light on things we may not have seen otherwise

This chapter has to be my favorites chapter (as a whole) in the entire Bible - it has so much in it and I really think it's the heart of this whole 22 Days of Life - love is what this whole chapter is about and it's beautiful

These are the verse that speak to me:

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 If I give away everything I own, and if I give over my body in order to boast, but do not have love, I receive no benefit.

For me it's a reminder that it doesn't matter what we say or do or what our gifts are or how The Lord has blessed us, if we aren't giving/speaking/praying/serving/thinking with love, then it's pointless and a waste. God wants us to operate in and with love in all that we do and that's so important to remember. It goes back to what Kia mentioned - why are you doing what you're doing ? Is it out of love or self gain or some expectatio ? It should always be out of/for the Love we have for Jesus. You can be the best singer or prayer warrior on this side of heaven but if you aren't sharing this blessing out of love (but simply to get recognition or because you think it'll get you into heaven) then you're no better than a loud gong - you're just making noise really

Let us remember that ALL we do must be in love - it's hard, I know I struggle daily because I don't want to settle or be a posh over or whatever excuse I make - but we have to act/speak/think with love as the focus.

Let us all accept the challenges set before us from this scripture !

Good morning Ladies:

Not sure that I have much more to add to the beautiful truth's that have already been written, but I do want to say that reading this blessed me this morning. This is reminder that Love is not an emotion or a feeling, but an action. Regardless of how we feel, we are commanded to abide and walk in love. It reminds me of the saying "it's not what you say, it is how you say it". In this situation it's not what you do, but why you do it. Thanks ladies for weighing in on these scriptures. I can't wait to join the readings.
