Happy Fridayyyyyy Ya'll! I don't know about ya'll but it's definitley been a tiring week for me, so I am extremely happy to see this day! Anyways, here are the verses that stood out to me in Ephesians 5...
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Verse 21 is so powerful to me because often times we hear "the saints" ephasize verse 22 but hardly ever the prior verse which clearly says "Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ". This means that if we claim to love the Lord, live for the Lord, and have a deep respect for the Lord then we should be able to submit to one another. Although this seems to really pertain to married couples I think that those who are dating with hopes of one day getting married can also take something from this verse. Ladies and Gentlemen, we should not be entertaining someone of the opposite sex who is showing signs of being domineering. This trait does not portray Christ's love and it shows a disrespect for God.
Ok now! Verse 22 does say that wives should submit to there husbands BUT when we look at verse 23, it compares the husband to Christ and the wife to the church. Wow! This is certainly a powerful comparison but it definitely shows us how important marriage truly is. As the Body of Christ, we look up to Christ because he sets the example for us to follow. He exhibits everything great and wonderful. As a result our men of God should be setting the example for the women of God and their families to follow. If you call yourself a man of God yet your constantly doing things and acting in a way that is opposite of that which is in line with the will of God, then please tell us women WHY we would even want to submit to you? Likewise, if we see that our men are chasing after God and the things of God then we as women should not have any problems submitting to our husbands. This is simply because just as much as we trust Christ to love us and take care of us, we should also be able to trust our husbands to love and take care of us (verse 24). I think this is important for us to look at because we want to make sure that we are in healthy relationships and we truly understand what God intended marriage to be and look like. If we understand these principles now then when we do get married, our marriages will prosper and we will be able to set Godly examples for others to follow.
