Good afternoon everybody !!
In today's chapter, this stood out to me:
17 Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who create dissensions and obstacles contrary to the teaching that you learned. Avoid them!
18 For these are the kind who do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By their smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of the naive.
19 Your obedience is known to all and thus I rejoice over you. But I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.
Well there you have it! I think it's a great point that Paul lays out as warning - not everyone who says they come in the name of Christ come with he right intentions. We have to be mindful of those that contradict what we KNOW to be true. How often in Gospel Choir did we hear/say "God is not the author of confusion" ?!? So if someone is saying or doing something or attempting to lead you or others down a path that doesn't align with what you KNOW to be true or causing confusion - be mindful! Don't blindly follow them because they claim to be coming for righteous reasons, they very well could be coming to purely benefit themselves. Don't be swayed to do what feels wrong in your spirit by smooth words or flattery - now there is one for you! How often do we find ourselves doing what we KNOW and feel is wrong but the delivery was ON POINT?!? Next thing we know, we're asking God to forgive us for this and that, I know I am guilty of it.
I feel like verse 19 stands about from the other two in he sense that, Paul reminds the People of the Roman church that their accolades preceded them and that brings him great joy but to not be foolishly think that that's enough - the Christians in Rome still need a reminder to not involve themselves in evil things. I think this is important to us, there are people who either look up to us or are proud of our Christian walk/faithfulness/journey but we need to stay humble and remember to not allow ourselves to get caught up in/by evil things 1) because we represent God and if we act a fool that shows poorly on Him and 2) because people are watching/have heard of us. It's the same sense of how we represent our families when we go places - we don't want to make Mama look bad cause we act a fool and we shouldn't want to make people question God because of our actions either
I pray you all have a great rest of the day !!
