Good morning ! I pray you all are doing well and are staying encouraged.
What stood out for me in this chapter was:
11 Whenever Moses would raise his hands, then Israel prevailed, but whenever he would rest his hands, then Amalek prevailed.
12 When the hands of Moses became heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side and one on the other, and so his hands were steady until the sun went down.
I think this is a great reminder of our physical commitment to God and how it's just as important as the words we speak and who we think, and feel. Moses trusted God that in sending Joshua out to fight the Israelites would win, Joshua in turn trusted God and Moses leadership. However, it wasn't trust enough to trust God and be obedient, though that's often the tough first step we struggle with, a physicall commitment needed to be made. The Israelites were only successful in battle when Moses had his hand lifted up to God. I think there is a lot of power not only in Moses needing to keep his hands up lifted (verses stretching his hands out like he did to separate the Red Sea) but also in the fact that this act wasn't something that he did on his own. Moses had two helpers in this effort to assure that Israel was victorious through God.
We aren't all "Moses" or "Joshua", though we may have our Moses or Joshua moments, but we all can be an Aaron or Hur - helping someone else carry out a great task by providing support (or encoyragement). I think it's so very important that we all remember the larger picture and stay focused on God and trust in Hos power, we'd all then be less likely to get caught up in the "extra - ness" of life and be more will to help each other. When God is at the center, one person's success and triumph or flesh brings great blessing and victory to all.
The image of Moses having his hands lifted to God reminds me of a child wanting to be picked up, as opposed to a ruler doling out tasks and demands with his hands point out. Moses surrender all to God and trusted Him to take the Israelites higher, to pick them up, as opposed dominating the situation as if the victory was coming from him and looking down on the fight from the hill top as if to be the ultimate judge. In my mind, Moses wasn't concerned with what was going on below, he went to the hill top to be closer to God! Moses was directing the battle with his staff, rather he was trusting in God to be a provider and surrender all to him, handing it over, and in order to hand it over to God, Moses had to reach UP to Heaven! Moses wasn't entrusting anything to Joshua (other then his obedience), Moses handed everything over to God and they won the battle - will we trust Gid enough to do the same ?
