Hello again, finally back on track!
Here we go, in this chapter, these verses stood out:
29 I will not drive them out before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild animals multiply against you.
30 Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you become fruitful and inherit the land.
I see this as a reminder of God's timing and why we should find peace in trusting Him and His time table. I know that God is working on me and my patience, in general I agree that our generation has a patience issue, like Kia has said before, we want what we want, when we want and that's usually RIGHT NOW. From microwaves to instant messages/texts, to google/the internet in general, high speed this, fiber optic that, fast food, 4G connections, etc. everything is geared to FASTER which makes trusting in those moments of having to WAIT that much harder. But there is a REASON behind it and there is power in waiting. God didn't tell the Israelites they'd conquer their enemies over night or in a few weeks - no they would be driven our before His chosen people in ONE YEAR. There is a blessing in being connected enough to God to get a time line and there is comfort in know "when". Think about it, how much less stress we found ourselves in in grade school (and even in college), because we new the progression pattern and we knew the time line: grade school to middle school to 4 years in high school (to 4 years in college and even some structure for grad school).
But outside of the time frame God gives, I see the real blessing in the explanation: there wasn't a delay because God wanted to further test them or they needed to prove themselves or He thought they weren't strong enough, God goes on to explain that He doesn't want the land to go to waste or become overrun by wild animals therefore requiring the Israelites to put in more work to enjoy their blessing. The Lord intentionally plans to drive them out the enemy little by little so that as His Chosen People inherit the land, they can do so in good conditions. The enemy had already put in the work and toil to make the land liveable, all the Israelites had to do was TRUST GOD to inherit their blessing. WOW! There is power and purpose in waiting! I'll say that again to encourage myself - THERE IS POWER AND PURPOSE IN WAITING! God made the Israelites take their in inheriting their blessing as He rid the land of their enemies because He didn't want them to have to put in any unnecessary work. Yes, there were times when the Israelites were instructed to destroy whole cities and not carry away gold, silver, animals or slaves, but most of the time, God allowed the Israelites to move right on in and settle down, all they had to do was rid the area of the idols of other gods.
How often have we found ourselves having to put in more work than we should have/originally would have had we not rushed into something and just allowed ourselves to be patient and do things in God's timing? I know I've fallen victim to that - well I have to do this NOW/jump on this opportunity immediately or I'll miss out: well if it is something truly meant to be, God won't let me miss out if I just trust in Him and His timing. We often can get caught up into rushing into things we aren't ready for because "everyone else is doing it" - what God has for me is for me and I but need to trust Him and His timing and it too shall come to pass in my life.
Be encouraged !
