So it took me some time to find something that spoke to me I. This chapter, but when I re-read it with fresh eyes this morning, this stood out to me:
12 The Lord said to Moses, "Come up to me to the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandments that I have written, so that you may teach them."
13 So Moses set out with Joshua his attendant, and Moses went up the mountain of God.
I am encouraged in verse 12 when I see that God specifically called for Moses to be in His presence but not only that, God wanted Moses to spend time there on Mount Siani with Him AND The Lord said He would provide Moses with the laws and commandments that He has written so that Moses may teach the people. It's just so awesome to be that God would want to spend time with someone as lowly as me (someone who has been filled with doubt, has questioned God and His calling on my life, etc) and not only that, the is an immense comfort to know that once called into God's presence He'll give me EXACTLY what I need to go out and carry out His Will - like He always had. Moses never had to want for any thing to carry out God's Will, God ALWAYS provided - the staff, Aaron, a pillar of smoke by day and fire by night, manna and quail, instructions on where and when to go, and water. And God continues to provide so that Moses is not out on his own trying to figure out what to do with this "church folk" and we know how we can be lol.
But I am also moved that we again see Joshua in the picture. We were first introduced when Joshua was fighting the Philistines and Aaron and Hur had to help keep Moses's hands lifted to ensure God would fight for the Israelites so they would when. Joshua is now back in the picture as Moses's attendant as Moses heads up Mount Siani to spend time with The Lord. Neither Joshua nor Moses knew at this time that Joshua would be the one to lead Israel into the Promise Land (not Moses because he sinned against God by striking the rock for water when God didn't instruct Him to do so). This is foresight for me as to the importance to allow ourselves to be attendants to those doing great things around us because we never know when we'll have to take on their mantle and continue the journey they started. Joshua was, I am sure, blessed by the privilege and grateful for the experience and I trust that he looked back on this time as Moses entrusted the people to him to cross the Jordan into the Promise Land. So let us not think too highly of ourselves that we forgo moments to serve others (especially being caught up in the "I just fought this battle" mindset which is what Joshua could have done and just blown Moses off) - let us take full advantage and serve with gratitude and take in all we can!
