Good morning loves ! I pray you each are filled with God given joy on today.
Here is what stood out to me in today's reading:
Ch. 15
20 All his days the wicked man suffers torment, throughout the number of the years that are stored up for the tyrant.
21 Terrifying sounds fill his ears; in a time of peace marauders attack him.
22 He does not expect to escape from darkness; he is marked for the sword;
29 He will not grow rich, and his wealth will not endure, nor will his possessions spread over the land.
31 Let him not trust in what is worthless, deceiving himself; for worthlessness will be his reward.
Here we have another one of Job's "friends" speaking ( Eliphaz, for the second time). And as I read through what he was saying, I realized that this is a person who just likes to hear the sound of his own voice and isn't really listening to what he is saying, I pulled these specific verses but pretty much the whole speech represents a lack of awareness. Eliphaz is quick to explain Job's situation being connected to Job being sinful/unrighteous (clearly it's Job's fault and he is overlooking something). Eliphaz goes on to list all the things that happen to a sinful person throughout his life and then all the things aren't benefited to a sinful person. The thing is, bad things JUST STARTED TO HAPPEN TO JOB and GOD HAS BLESSED JOB WITH ALL THAT IS GIVEN TO A RIGHTEOUS PERSON ALREADY! Clearly Eliphaz is the one who hasn't yet opened his eyes and taken a true evaluation of the situation (which is what everyone is accusing Job of not doing).
For me this was a reminder that just because someone is willing to 'stick around' when times are hard for me, doesn't mean there are doing so to bring me any benefit. There is a great chance their merely sticking around because they want to see first hand my pain and then make themselves seem wise/more knowledgeable without really looking at the situation I am in. Watch the company you keep and be very mindful of who is willing to stick around when things are bad and WHY! I believe Job is on the same page with his response to Eliphaz in Chapter 16
Ch 16
2 "I have heard many things like these before. What miserable comforters are you all!
5 But I would strengthen you with my words; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.
Again, Job goes back to calling his "friends" out - he sees how they are there simply to condemn him and offer no relief or comfort (as friends should in times like this). These men who have come to sit with Job have no true care or concern for him, they are merely tearing him and and discounting the well credited man that he is - well clearly you aren't as saved as your say/act because if you were these bad things wouldn't happen to you. I think we all know people like this, they want front row seats to watch you go through hell and then want to throw salt on you rather than help encourage you. They really don't stick around to bring you comfort, they merely are spectators and down-casters. Don't let a difficult situation that you face make you feel that your walk with God isn't true when you know that it is and don't like negative people around you try to make you feel your walk isn't really because things aren't going well in your life. Think about ALL that Jesus had to go through, and He was PERFECT/FREE FROM SIN, we should expect difficulties to come our way, we should be prepared for the coming storms, but we should face them with joy knowing that we already have the victory because we aren't defined by our sins!
Make sure you have the right people around you when you're going through a hard time, people who will pray with and for your and not just talk down to you. People who will bring words of comfort or simply a comforting presence, not those who will try to discredit your relationship with God. Be mindful of those you call friend!
have a fantastic day!
