Good morning everyone!
These are the verses that stood out to me from today's reading:
Ch. 17
5 If a man denounces his friends for personal gain, the eyes of his children will fail.
I found it interesting that Job, in the midst of all this, actions between one generation will affect the next generation. Up til now there has been back and forth about why Job is suffering and recently Job called his "friends" out for there lack of support. But there really hasn't been mention of how what's happening now would affect those to come/growing up/looking to you for guidance and I think that's an important reminder. Quia mentioned this beige but it plays again here on the importance of remember someone is always watching and you never know how your actions might affect someone else, whether younger in age or new to their relationship with Christ. We have to be mindful how we treat one another, not just for our own sake but for other's around us looking for guidance and reassurance of God's love and presence. We are to be a reflection of our Heavenly Father - we have I be loving and respectful to others, we have to remove judgement and so compassion. It's not about brushing things off or letting things slide, yes Proverbs says "iron sharpens iron" but there is a right way to do every good act and we should do our best to follow that.
Ch. 18
1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:
2 "How long until you make an end of words? You must consider, and then we can talk.
3 Why should we be regarded as beasts, and considered stupid in your sight?
I found it interesting that Bildad was so quick to judge Job for his comments of how he (and the others) weren't true friends but didnt take in WHY Job was saying it. Further proving Job's point. These men gathered around Job are there to place judgement, not help or even acknowledge their wrong doing in heir approach to support Job at this time. Everything Job said went in one ear and out the other. While his friends should have been listening to what Job was saying they were merely hearing Job long enough to come up why a counter argument. Lesson here - dont argue with fools, it only wastes your time and makes you look foolish too. Job is wasting his time trying to point out that his friends are being good friends and that his suffering is not because of his own doing. Job's friends have it set in heir mind that Job is not as righteous as he thinks he is and their gonna run with it. There is no changing their minds. We can be like this too - I know I can, just plan old stuck in my ways: this is how I feel and how I think and their isn't any changing it cause I have a right to feel this way. Wrong ! Wrong is wrong, no way around it and we each have to grow to mature to a place of being open to hearing the other side and really evaluating why the two different and if we are really "right" in our thoughts and actions. We've got work to do !!
Have a fantastic day!!!
