Hey guys! So I definitely agree with what Ash and Court were saying yesterday about Job 21. It is really difficult to live right. I think that a very important thing to remember that our relationship is our relationship. We have to make sure that we aren't comparing our tribulations and struggles to another person because we don't know where they've come from or what goes on behind their closed doors. Just because we see someone and perceive them as being successful despite them adhering to the word of God is not always true. As long as we make sure that we are doing what we have been called to do and are responsible for that's what matters--which brings me to what stood out to me in Job 22.
You demanded security from your relatives for no reason;
you stripped people of their clothing, leaving them naked.
7 You gave no water to the weary
and you withheld food from the hungry,
8 though you were a powerful man, owning land—
an honored man, living on it.
9 And you sent widows away empty-handed
and broke the strength of the fatherless.
10 That is why snares are all around you,
why sudden peril terrifies you,
11 why it is so dark you cannot see,
and why a flood of water covers you.
These verses stood out to me because they made me examine myself. WE see that Job is dealing with so many difficult things and Eliphaz tells him that when he had things he didn't use them to bless others. Now, I am not sure whether or not this is true...we don't get a lot of background on Job except that he was blameless, upright and sacrificed on behalf of his family, but it doesn't say whether or not he did things for the community. This made me step back and examine myself because even though Eliphaz is annoying lol, he does have a point. To me, this is a kind of turning point. It's kind of like that prayer that you always pray when something goes wrong...."Lord, if you just get me out of this, I promise I will praise you, I promise I will do this do that" etc. These verses were a reminder to me of what we should be doing in good times AND in bad times. It's about being selfless because if you really think about it once you decide that you are going to be a blessing to others despite your situation, that's when your situation begins to turn around!
