Well if we didn't get it yesterday we certainly go a reminder today. For me when I read these scriptures is seem like he people of Corinth at this time we struggling to the same degree we are in this day and age. History repeats itself and we would be wise to make the changes suggested by Paul - for the word of God is quite clear on the unrighteousness of sexual immorality, as well as greed, drunkenness, idolalitry, and this chapter adds homosexuality (v. 1 Cor. 6:9-10) verse 9 stands out as a reminder that we can't do such deateable things in God's eyes and still expect to go to Heaven
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals,
10 thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Now, I don't believe any one sin is above another but I do believe that following Jesus' statement that the greatest commandment is I love The Lord our God and the second is to love our neighbor. With that said, loving God is honoring His word and seeking first HIS kingdom. Loving thy neighbor requires me to hold them accountable but not to judge, because again, I am not perfect and no sin is greater than another ... And I'll leave it at that
It's important for us to heed Paul's words and "turn from our wicked ways" sinply for the fact of showing God how much we love Him.
I always wondered if there was a connection between sex before marriage and just a complete disregard for God's word and failed marriages, even if they don't lead to divorse but are just lacking love, true love. Was too much emphasis put in sex and not on obeying God's word and now these couples find themselves unhappy and they can't figure out why or figure out where all the love went ? Maybe love was never really there and it was just lust or maybe love was there but wasn't nurtured the way it needed to have been because the focus wasn't on God but on sex or materialism or how much of a priority something/one was compared to other things
This life we love now is about getting to heaven by serving God and his people and following his word and his will. Pleasures come as bonuses, we can't let them be he focus and take us off track of where we want to be and we can't give ourselves credit for anything - all the glory belongs on Him!
