In Mark 3, these verses stood out to me:
13 Now Jesus went up the mountain and called for those he wanted, and they came to him.
14 He appointed twelve (whom he named apostles), so that they would be with him and he could send them to preach
15 and to have authority to cast out demons.
16 He appointed twelve: To Simon he gave the name Peter;
I honestly had to come back and read this chapter again and ask God to show me what it is He'd have me learn/gain from this. Looking at the chapter a second time these verses stood Pitt to me because it showed me/reminded me that there are going to be times when God will call you away from the crowd to a higher place. But not only will He call you away from the crowd, He'll give you an assignment, and in some cases that assignment will require you to be given a new name. This certainly isn't the first time God did this (Abraham, Sarah, Isreal, for examples from the Old Testament).
A name change is significant. It is like a fresh start, it emphasizes the importance of the assignment - God needs to change your outlook on yourself to empower you for this new assignment and what better way to do that than changing what you call yourself and what others call you. Names have such great weight and value. What you call yourself and what you answer to is so important. Don't limit yourself or down grade who/what God has called you to be by continuing to call yourself (or answer to) a name that is beneath you/from your past/outside of the assignment God has called you to.
Be faithful in your assignment, accept and embrace the name change and the responsibility that comes with it, and don't settle for being referred to by your old, pre-mountain experience self!
Love y'all
