Hey guys,
Hope you're well. For those that are in school just want to say be encouraged! We're almost there keep pushing!!!!!
So in my reading today I had a question. Verse 11-12 says:
11-12 Evil spirits, when they recognized him, fell down and cried out, “You are the Son of God!” But Jesus would have none of it. He shut them up, forbidding them to identify him in public.
Now, first of all it's amazing to think that demons know exactly who Jesus is and are SCARED of him. But anywho, I want to know why he told them to shut up and not identify them. This happened regularly and I don't really get it. You would think that he would want ppl to know about him. I mean that's what he charges us to do--share with others about him and his works so why didn't he then? Any thoughts?
Now as far as what stood out to me here goes:
20-21 Jesus came home and, as usual, a crowd gathered—so many making demands on him that there wasn’t even time to eat. His friends heard what was going on and went to rescue him, by force if necessary. They suspected he was getting carried away with himself.
33-35 Jesus responded, “Who do you think are my mother and brothers?” Looking around, taking in everyone seated around him, he said, “Right here, right in front of you—my mother and my brothers. Obedience is thicker than blood. The person who obeys God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”
These verses speak to me about focus and being purpose driven. Jesus didn't even have time to EAT! I know sometimes we get busy and don't have time to eat and we start getting cranky. We complain we get tired we catch a meeeaaaannn attitude we just really start acting outta character when were hungry. I just imagine Jesus being like this for a quick second then being reminded what this is all about. It's much greater than him. In that same way we have priorities. Just like eating us a big deal for many if us, so is family. I know if I was talking to a crowd of people any my mom and sister needed me id find a way to get to them as quickly as possible, but not Jesus. He illustrates in 33-35 that there is no one more important than the souls he is trying to save at that moment. We have to remember that every opportunity isn't going to return to us, so when we have a chance to share we must do so with complete attention and follow through. I also really enjoyed reading the way Jesus rebuked those lying on him. He just made them look dumb lol.
Does it make sense to send a devil to catch a devil, to use Satan to get rid of Satan? A constantly squabbling family disintegrates. If Satan were fighting Satan, there soon wouldn’t be any Satan left. Do you think it’s possible in broad daylight to enter the house of an awake, able-bodied man, and walk off with his possessions unless you tie him up first? Tie him up, though, and you can clean him out.
This is just funny to me because Jesus hit them with that oh really? Let me tell you how foolish you sound! Also, I paid special attention to the part about there not being any satans left. That caught my attention, but it made me thinking about Christianity and the church. If the church is fighting the church there'll be no moe church left. If we as Christians keep fighting there'll be nothing left. We know that were not supposed to stir up dissension and strife but it always seems that we just can't quit gossiping. Instead of praying we stay talking about someone else. We tear others down. We don't support. We don't check in. We display jealousy and anger. All of these things are not of God and succeed in tearing down the kingdom. We gotta remember the priority. We are to be purpose driven kingdom builders so we need to act accordingly.
