Good morning every body!!!
What stood out to me in Mark, that I don't remember being emphasized in Matthew with this story was:
8 Having no regard for the command of God, you hold fast to human tradition."
9 He also said to them, "You neatly reject the commandment of God in order to set up your tradition.
It made me think of all the things we do for the sake of tradition that don't tie into the Word or Will of God OR we do them without knowing how or why they tie into the Word/Will if God but they are tradition so we just go with it. I don't want to continue to do "just cause" - I feel like that falls under the same issue if trying to get into Heaven on your grandmother's or mother's faith/prayer. I want to make sure my actions are genuine and are done on purpose and that I understand how and why they honor God. I feel like the best way to assure that is to READ THE WORD! You can't know for sure unless you go to the source.
Too often I feel our generation is so quick to hang off of every word we hear from Pastors or we hear in a Gospel Song but we don't go follow up and read the word ourselves, why don't we, cause we're "too busy, too tired, too focused on work or school" - excuses, excuses, excuses. We are lazy and our generation is a generation of instant gratification (and its only getting worse). Is everyone this way, no, all we all this way all the time, no, but we all have our moments. I remember seeing a meme that said "if it won't keep you from going to work on Monday, don't let it keep you from going to church in Sunday" we are quick to make excuses and notable enough time for God (but always have time to one more TV show or one more chapter in a good book, or one more drink or another 20min to sleep) but we won't let those same excuses get in the way offline money or we run around crying "why me Lord!"
Don't just go through the motions, prayer without ceasing but know WHY the Word says you should, tithe but know WHY you should, read your Bible daily but know WHY! It's more than just being able to check off a box on a to-do list - be genuine in your relationship with God, don't just do for the sake of tradition
Love y'all
