Good morning all! Forgive me for my absence... I hope we all make today great even though we may not feel it. Any who, Romans 6...
This whole chapter kept reminding me of GRACE & MERCY! In our mess when we thought we were "doing me" we were actual slaves to the sin that so EASILY entangled us. God forgave us then and continues to forgive us now. Only by grace were we saved. However grace does NOT afford us the luxury to maintain our wickedness. That is not our get out of jail free card. This verse really captured my attention, verse 17 NKJV: But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
Our hope is in that we can be delivered from sin and become slaves to obedience and righteousness. The good news is that when we fall short we can ask forgiveness and be cleansed of unrighteousness. I'm so glad God doesn't treat us the way our sins deserve. We have the responsibility to take up our cross daily and crucify our flesh every single day because the devil desires to Sift you as wheat. In other words, he wants to take advantage of every chance to separate you from God and that's what our sin does. Its a constant battle, we must fight to overcome the penalty of sin daily and God will deliver us.
Peace & Love Crys

I am in total agreeing with Crystal, especially the "get out of jail free card" statement, which speaks to the verses that stood out to me in this chapter:
1 What shall we say then? Are we to remain in sin so that grace may increase? 2 Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
11 So you too consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
For me these verses remind me that we can't be content in "living in sin" because at the end of the day, it's not "living" at all. Sin = death, plan and simple. We should be content with falling short because we serve a loving and forgiving God, it's not a get out of jail free card, we shouldn't accept a life of sin because that leads to death, and as Crystal mentioned, separation from God (which is what the devil wants). We have to fight past the temptations and honor God in all we do and think, honor Him with allow our lives, not just sometimes or on Sundays or at choir practice or in Bible study, not just when we think someone's looking (as Kia mentioned before - someone is ALWAYS watching and so is God). We have to live for God and we can't do that if we are trying to live in sin.
We are called to consider ourselves dead to sin and alive in Christ. This chapter talks about how we took on the death and resurrection of Christ when we were baptized I Hos name - we therefore need to live like it. Yes, we will fall short, and yes we are blessed to find grace, mercy, and forgiveness at the feet of our Father if we but repent and ask for it. But we shouldn't abuse that grace, we shouldn't plan to be in sin cause we know we're gonna just go and ask God to forgive us. We need to always strive to live in Christ - who remained free of sin as He lived on earth, took on the world's sin and die for our sake, and was resurrected on the 3rd day free from sin, giving us all access to LIFE and life more abundantly - we can live in abundance if we're living in sin.
Alright, that's all for now! Have a fabulous day!!!

Well I'm so thankful to God for His grace & mercy! But I know that I am guilty of taking it for granted. This chapter is a great reminder that because Jesus has overcome sin, I'm not a slave to it. The same power that rose Jesus from the dead works in me and that's a powerful thing! We have got to learn to walk/live in that power! We can't be okay with our sin. We are called to lived righteously, and God has equipped us with the ability to do it. So we have to get out of self and desiring our wants more than we desire His will for our life!

Hey loves!
So these verses made me think of my DDS class. There's constant emphasis on the fact that as people who choose to give our lives to Christ there is an accompanying action to crucify the things of the flesh as well. This chapter illustrates that Jesusdied once so that we may have the power to die daily. We must make a CONSCIOUS effort to kill our flesh each and every day. It's not something that is afforded to us each day; it's something we CHOOSE to do each day. This means lust anger lying rudeness profanity sex etc. we've all lived long enough to know that these things can run away with us in 3 secs and before we know it we've cussed somebody out, gossiped, lied about something satisfied our sexual desires. That's why these verses stood out to me:.
3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death?
20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. 21 And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom.
We're called to die to our flesh. To take up our cross daily like Crys mentioned. What really stood out to me was one word--OBLIGATION. Yes, we choose to follow, but that choice results in MANDATORY responsibility. You don't get to wake up and choose you wanna be a heathen today. You don't choose to have an attitude and be nasty. You dont choose to call up that guy/girl youve been lustin over and seeing "what they gettin into" on a random Wednesday night. You made your choice and each day that choice is met with one necessary and mandatory action which is to crucify your flesh. Paul is saying 'my how quickly they forget' lol.Well now we've had our opportunity to forget now it time to thank brother Paul for bringing it to our recollection and putting it to action!

Romans 6 is the chapter that supports Galatians 6:9--"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." A part of maturing into an adult is realizing and actually following through with that realization of what is right and wrong, what you need to do vs what you want to do. This world is full of temptations, and as humans we are "weak in our natural selves" (verse 19). Don't let the temptation of sin lead you to making the wrong choices. Don't give in to death but give in to righteousness. Don't you want to reap the good harvest and experience what God has promised you? Yes, always trying to do right can get tough (and boring) but just think of the result that you will get from doing right. Like Courtney said, don't be content in falling short. Just because this world is full of sin doesn't mean you have to be of this world. Let us strive to live for Him and his sacrifice!
